Anti-Kiev fighters who are battling government troops in eastern Donetsk have agreed to silence their artillery. Each side says it could withdraw heavy weapons from the front line if shooting stopped for five days. CCTV America’s Kate Parkinson reports.
Despite the truce agreed to more than a month ago, the fighting at Donetsk city airport has continued unabated as anti-Kiev rebels battle with Ukrainian forces for control. They are trying to push the government troops out of their last outpost in the rebel’s main stronghold.

It’s been a fierce battle and the airport is now a wasteland of rubble.
Despite boasting of their recent gains, the rebels insist they have been sticking to the ceasefire and only respond to incoming fire. Kiev, however, has given a completely different report, saying its troops have repelled daily raids on their airport positions.
Serious ceasefire violations have been reported almost daily during the past month, with both sides accusing each other of breaking the truce. During the first day of this new pledge to stop shooting, the guns are still not silent in Donetsk.
