Earlier this year, Canada pledged to bring 10,000 more refugees from Syria over the next three years.
CCTV-America’s Kristiaan Yeo met one of them in Toronto.
Highlights:
- With around 15 million people displaced by the crises in Syria and Iraq, sponsors can only take the most desperate and at-risk.
- Most of Canada’s refugees are church-sponsored. While their knowledge on the ground is unrivaled, there are concerns that Canada and other countries are cherry-picking Christians over people of other faiths.
- An openly gay muslim, of Palestinian descent, Moe was born and raised in Syria and says he increasingly feared for his safety and at times considered taking his own life.
