Brazil’s women’s team ignites World Cup fever

World Today

Brazil’s men’s team has won several World Cups, but after falling short in their 2022 bid, it is now up to the women’s team to bring home the coveted championship. The Brazilian women’s team is already off to a fast start at the World Cup in Australia, as they defeated newcomer Panama by a score of four goals to zero.

To ensure the people can cheer on the women’s team, the government has given civil servants extra time to celebrate, allowing them permission to arrive late to catch the end of the latest match. In Rio de Janeiro, some 100 women gathered to enjoy Brazil’s first match against Panama. Lucrecia Franco has the story from Rio de Janeiro.
