Brazil’s unusually dry rainy season is taking its toll on the country’s hydropower plants. The dryness in most developed and populous region is threatening home water supplies, hurting sugar and coffee crops and forcing power distributors to pay surging prices in the wholesale energy market.

And as the power prices head higher– the government may have to take drastic steps to help meet electricity demand. CCTV’s Paulo Cabral reports.
