More than 50 suspected Taliban militants were killed in northeast Pakistan in separate attacks by both Pakistani soldiers and the CIA. CCTV’s Danial Khan reports.
Four U.S. drone strikes reportedly killed at least 15, although there are contradictory accounts about the number of deaths. At least five drones were in the area, according to eyewitnesses. These strikes have been the deadliest in about a year.
The attack took place in the North Waziristan area near the Afghanistan border, where the joint Pakistani-U.S. military operation is underway.
The Pakistani military also carried out airstrikes launched Wednesday in that region to target “fleeing terrorists,” killing 35 militants. Last week, a drone strike in the same area reportedly killed six militants.
U.S. drone strikes are a source of tension between the U.S. and Pakistan, whose government has regularly denounced the drone program as a violation of its sovereignty.
