Peshmerga fighters, though lacking the latest military technology, are fiercely defending the Kurdistan region against Islamic State militants.
Although their weapons are outdated, the Peshmerga forces have years of battlefield experience to use in their struggle to defend their region.
They are skilled guerrilla fighters, but U.S. airstrikes have helped level the playing field by destroying IS vehicles and insurgents.
