66th Annual Emmy Awards celebrated in Hollywood

Hollywood celebrated one of its biggest nights on Monday at the Emmy Awards honoring the best work on U.S. television and the new online distribution outlets. CCTV America’s Yakenda McGahee reports.

There’s an old American saying that “crime doesn’t pay,” except on American television. A crime drama featuring a high school chemistry teacher turned drug dealer called “Breaking Bad” swept nearly every major category at the 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards including Best writing and Best Actor. Bryan Cranston captured his fourth wins as the chemistry teacher who can mix a mean methamphetamine.

It was also a good night for “The Good Wife”. Juliana Margulies won for her portrayal of a good wife to a bad husband, which is a public prosecutor disgraced in sex and corruption scandal.

“The Big Bang Theory,” a sitcom about a bunch of science geeks, racked up around 1.3 billion views on Chinese streaming video sites. Youku, China’s version of YouTube, added 33 American TV series to its video library in 2013, including “Modern Family”, which scored a record fifth straight win as Best Comedy.

It was a night of many triumphant wins, but it saddened by a devastating loss-comedic legend Robin Williams, who was beloved on both sides of the Pacific.

Billy Crystal gave a loving tribute to his best friend of 40 years.
