US calls on Middle East countries to lead fight against IS

Insight

The U.S. says it will continue its air campaign against Islamic State terrorists, but it also stressed that Middle East countries with Sunni majorities take the lead in the international effort.

Getting the region to take the lead is also a way to guarantee that any U.S. involvement remains limited to airstrikes, rather than American boots on the ground. This happens as IS released a video showing heavy weaponry which some believe to be arms that the U.S. supplied to Syrian rebels.

US broadens efforts to combat militants

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is heading to the Middle East to expand the coalition pledging to fight the Islamic State. The trip follows the announcement of a core coalition of 10 nations last week following the NATO summit. The U.S. is also asking China to help with the fight. CCTV-America's Nathan King reports with the details.
