Twelve carat ‘Blue Moon’ diamond on display

An ultra rare blue diamond was recently unveiled at the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles. CCTV America’s Yakenda McGahee reports.

The diamond is called Blue Moon. Found in January 2014 out of the Cullinan Mine in South Africa, this beauty weighs 29 carats rough and astounding 12 carats finished cut. The manufacturer Cora International acquired the diamond rough for $26.6 million.

It’s the deep ocean-blue hue. It is considered to be in a category by itself and graded at the highest possible scale: “fancy vivid.”

Colored diamonds have seen a surge in popularity. No one will speculate on what price the finished blue moon diamond will fetch when it goes up for auction after its four month museum run in LA.
