Thousand of Syrian refugees cross into Turkish town of Suruc

World Today

The crisis in Kobane has caused thousands of Syrians to cross into the bordering Turkish town of Suruc. In fear of their lives, they flee with no more than the clothes on their backs. Yet for Syrian refugees in Suruc, life continues to be a battle. CCTV America’s Michal Bardavid reports.

The town of Suruc currently hosts about 200,000 refugees; That’s twice the size of its population.

Though the Turkish government has set up camps, they are hardly enough. Syrians have been forced to find other spots to call home for now.

The conditions of living in Turkey have proven to be difficult for many who have fled the fighting in Kobane. Proper hygiene and health have become a concern as a result of mattresses next to hay stacks and rooms with no roofs or bathrooms.

Though many Syrian refugees are living in despair as they struggle to survive in Turkey, they are more concerned for their friends and family who are still in Kobane. They fear that those left behind face the risk of massacre as ISIL continues its advance.
