The Tsunami of 2004 hit Thailand at the very heart of its tourist industry, on the resort Island of Phuket and up the Southwestern coast of Phang Nga. Many of those most affected were foreign tourists, or those working in the tourist industry.

Nikhom Soyson was just setting up his small jet-ski rental business on Kammala beach on the morning of the 26th when the first of the three deadly waves hit the beach. He told CCTV America’s Tony Cheng in his own words how he reacted, and how he managed to survive.

SOS Children’s Village helps victims recover

It’s 10 years since a tsunami wreaked havoc across southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean. More than half of those killed were from Banda Aceh. The children who lived through that tragedy have had to overcome unimaginable trauma. As CCTV’s Andy Saputra reported from Indonesia, many of them are fighting that battle at the SOS Children’s Village.
