Washington, D.C. residents and visitors gathered at the Newseum on Jan. 7 to support press freedoms around the world following an attack on the French satirical newspaper, Charlie Hebdo, that killed 12.

The predominantly French crowd, which included Christine Lagarde, head of the International Monetary Fund, stood in the bitter cold chanting “je suis Charlie” in French and English after each victim’s name was read.
