Americas Now is introducing a new segment “Urban Voices” that focuses on the many artistic endeavors in the Washington D.C. area and their impact on the Americas. Each week, we will feature the voice of a creator behind an artistic project.
In our first profile, we feature Luisa Alvarez, an artist that specializes in using light in public spaces. Alvarez is part of the Spanish artistic collective “Travesias de Luz” or “Journey of Light”.
Her project, called “The Soul of DC”, attempts to capture the essence of Georgetown, one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods, by creating scenes where illuminated figures interact with people in public spaces.
We followed Alvarez as she finalized the last details of her exhibit, part of the Georgetown Glow exhibition of holiday lights.
