The singing competition television show “America Idol” has captured huge audiences for more than a decade and catapulted the careers of many rising stars. Two of the show’s finalists are newlyweds and American Idol’s first couple. The two even got engaged on a future finale episode of “American Idol.”
The two finalists are Ace Young and Diana DeGarmo. They have temporarily combined their careers and are touring across the country in the Andrew Llyod Webber and Tim Rice 1968 musical, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”
Americas Now caught up with Ace and Diana when they were performing in Washington, D.C. at The Kennedy Center.
A behind the scenes look at an ‘American Idol’ love storyThe singing competition television show “America Idol” has captured huge audiences for more than a decade and catapulted the careers of many rising stars. Two of the show’s finalists are newlyweds and American Idol’s first couple. The two even got engaged on a future finale episode of “American Idol.”
“Joseph” is a biblical story about a young man who has prophetic dreams. When Joseph’s father gives him a coat of many colors, his brothers become jealous and sell him into slavery in Egypt. His owner, however, is the Pharaoh, who grows fond of him. So much so, in fact, that he makes Joseph a king.
Ace, who plays Joseph, said the musical’s main themes include “family and second chances.” Diana added, “And of course, dreaming. And to never give up on your dreams. Because Joseph’s come true right when you’re least expecting it.”
Ace and Diana discussed their working collaboration together as well as their engagement on “Idol.” They also talked about the thrill of performing at The Kennedy Center, which Diana calls “magical.”
Americas Now also spoke with one of Washington DC’s most popular radio hosts, Sarah Fraser, about Ace Young and Diana DeGarmo. Fraser has been covering “American Idol” for years. Her show used to be a lead-in to Ryan Seacrest’s show. Watch this additional footage of our interview with “Frase”.
“Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” will be performed in Texas, Louisiana, and the newlyweds’ new home state of Tennessee, in addition to Washington, D.C.
