This is the tenth year of a La Paz fashion show that showcases the “cholitas” attire. The term ‘cholitas’ is a common name for Bolivia’s “female” indigenous population.
The Cholitas’ fashion is a traditional attire that indigenous woman adopted when the Spanish ruled and forced people to wear European fashion.
The style indigenous women created enhanced cultural pride and tradition. The women wear bowler hats titled to the side with a colorful shawl draped around the shoulders and a layered shirt. The outfits as accessorized with jewelry. The full outfit cost up to $2,500.
