Militants take over Yarmouk refugee camp in Damascus

Insight

UN aid workers described the situation inside a Palestinian refugee camp located just five kilometers away from Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s palace in Damascus as: “Beyond inhumane” and “completely catastrophic”. For nearly a week now, Yarmouk has been transformed into one of Syria’s bloodiest battlegrounds. CCTV America’s Elaine Reyes filed this report from Washington.

Highlights:

  • The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the Bashar al-Assad government has dropped barrel bombs on the camp 25 times in the past three days
  • Militants now have control of an estimated 90 percent of Yarmouk.
  • Now food, water and prescription drugs are running out.
