Running against human slavery

Americas Now

Human trafficking is known as the slavery of the 21st century, especially with women and children forced into prostitution and labor.

In Mexico, an amateur runner found a very special way to address this issue. Together with his teammates, Francisco Javier Diaz participates in every major race in the country, donating money for each kilometer they run to those harmed by human trafficking.

Thanks to his organization Runners With Courage (Corredores con Valor), many victims have been able to attend college and get a degree.

“I met this girl who had been exploited sexually and had been maintained as a slave and I thought why not run for a cause?” says Diaz, for whom running has become a religious experience.

For this Game Changer running has always been about freedom, now he’s running to help victims of human trafficking find freedom from their scars.
