In March, beauty queen Ariana Miyamoto was crowned as Miss Universe Japan pageant, which brought about numerous debates in Japanese social media whether she is appropriate to represent Japan. She is tall, slender and beautiful, but she did not look Japanese enough. Born and raised in Japan, Ariana is a daughter of Japanese mother and African-American father.
