Friday marks the traditional ghost festival known as Zhongyuan. Locals usually eat ducks that day. According to ancient Chinese legend, ducks carry the dead from the underworld into the light for them to get together with their families.
Starting around midnight, some 100,000 ducks were put on sale in the streets of Liuzhou, Guangxi.
Sellers called out in high voices to passersby, and there was a strong smell of poultry in the air. Lots of customers and small traders spent the whole night selecting their ducks. This is annually the highest sales for ducks during the year.
