A popular Beijing restaurant that sells stuffed steamed bun will set up a baozi culture research center to help its employees “better understand the cultural significance of the traditional Chinese food,” according to the Qingfeng company’s official website.
Baozi are steamed buns with different types of stuffing inside.
Once an old restaurant favored by Beijingers, Qingfeng gained nationwide popularity, after Chinese President Xi Jinping visited one of its branches in 2013.
After Xi’s famous visit, the meal that he ordered became a favorite among customers, with some buyers even placing orders from other cities and getting the dishes sent to them.
The research center will set up an archive introducing the food’s history, culinary techniques and its cultural background.
