January 25 marks the five year anniversary of a revolution that saw President Hosni Mubarak toppled in Egypt. Authorities have boosted security across the county amid fears of bombings. Militant groups have increased their attacks in the country since the army ousted former president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.
CCTV’s Adel El Mahrouky reports from Cairo.
A bomb attack on Thursday shocked many in greater Cairo. It was the first explosion in a residential area.
“That bomb is linked to January 25 anniversary without a doubt,” Mostafa Amin a researcher at the Islamic Movements Researcher Centre said. “I believe many terrorist cells were preparing for that anniversary by manufacturing explosive devices.”
