Many struggle during Myanmar’s construction boom

Myanmar is having a monumental year, with a flood of foreign investment and a construction boom topping the list. But the economic growth has not been fruitful for all citizens.

CCTV’s Dave Grunebaum explains.

Working families are still struggling in the country, which has seen tremendous economic growth. Access to new stores and restaurants remain limited to many.

Not only are poorer communities still struggling, children have to choose work over education in order to help their families.

“We have to create job opportunities for these people,” Tun Yin, a regional parliamentarian with the National League of Democracy, said.

The new government is planning to improve schools and create better paying jobs, but it still could take years before real change.
