Flamenco dancers dazzle in ‘Carmen’ at The Kennedy Center

Americas Now

The Washington National Opera kicked off its 60th anniversary season at the Kennedy Center with a performance of the classic “Carmen.”

The opera is by French composer George Bizet but the story is set in Spain. It’s the tale of a tragic love triangle between an inexperienced soldier, a seductive gypsy, and the adventurous bullfighter who comes between them.

The Kennedy Center’s reincarnation of “Carmen” also features flamenco dancers.

“Americas Now” had the chance to visit with them in the rehearsal hall. We got to check out their moves and sit down and talk to them.

For this week’s “Urban Voices” segment we introduce you to Timo Nunez and Fanny Ara – two dancers making all the right moves in “Carmen.”
