‘Facekinis’ popular on China’s beaches

Chinese Culture

Burkini wearers may be in hot water in France, but on the other side of the world there are no such problems with another swimsuit covering the whole body – the “facekinis” popular in China.

Facekinis refer to nylon sun-proof masks that have been all the rage on beaches these past few summers in a country where many people, especially middle-aged women, prefer to avoid bronzed skin. Latest versions of the Chinese swimwear incorporate more and more local designs like dragons, phoenixes and peacocks.

These facekinis, by designer Zhang Shifan, turned a lot of heads on the beach in Qingdao, east China, recently.
