CCTV is preparing to set up a new international media organization to integrate resources and to adapt to the trend of media convergence. The China Global Television Network, or CGTN, is scheduled to be launched on the eve of the New Year.

CGTN will be a multi-language and multi-platform media grouping. It will consist of six TV channels, a video content provider and a digital media division.


CCTV News will be rebranded CGTN, the prime news channel of the new organization.

CCTV Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian will be renamed CGTN Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian. CCTV Documentary English will become CGTN Documentary. CGTN.com is the official website of CGTN.


CGTN will strengthen its global reporting ability to provide viewers with better services. It will expand its mobile new media platform and explore media convergence.


CGTN is headquartered at the new CCTV building in Beijing. It will put together an international team of professional journalists.

CGTN currently has production centers in Washington,D.C. and Nairobi. A Europe production center is also in development.
