Cold fronts have been dumping heavy snow on the Xinjiang region since Sunday with conditions creating low visibility and dangerous road conditions for drivers.
CGTN’s Frances Kuo reports.
In Tacheng Prefecture, vehicles were stuck on the snowy stretch of road.
The severe snowstorm has even blocked mobile signals and stalled rescue operations. On one road, nearly 700 people were trapped for hours, including a bus full of passengers.
Volunteers arrived and provided food for those with nowhere to go.
Snow plows have been deployed but clearing roads quickly has been a struggle due to the arctic temperatures. Some areas plunged to nearly minus 20 degrees Celsius.
More snow and frigid temperatures are on the forecast for Tuesday.
