Colombia’s isn’t known as the surfing capital of South America, but some of the best beaches for catching a wave in the continent can actually be found on the nation’s northwestern coast.

Rugged Pacific Ocean beaches have grown in popularity in recent years, and along with them, surfing school. But one school in particular is helping kids do more than ride waves. It’s using their newfound love of the sport to help them become empowered in the classroom.

Toby Muse introduces us to Nestor Tello Arboleda who, with the help of the Fundacion Buen Punto, is changing the game for Colombian youth, in and out of the water.
