Hundreds of thousands protest in Athens over Macedonia name dispute

Athens saw mass protests on Sunday over a naming dispute with Greece’s northern neighbor Macedonia. The two countries agreed to more talks this year, prompting hundreds of thousands to rally against any possible settlement.

A Greek territory that borders Macedonia has the same name, and many Greeks say Macedonia – which gained independence from the former Yugoslavia in 1991 – is trying to steal their history. An agreement could lead to EU and NATO membership for Macedonia. CGTN’s Filio Kontrafouri has more from Athens.
