When you think of rice fields, you probably don’t think of art. Well, then you’ve never visited Shenyang, China where the local rice farmers literally grow works of art in their rice fields. They create elaborate three-dimensional patterns by carefully planting different strains of rice, which grow into different colors and heights. By harvest time, their fields are filled with gorgeous images depicting various iconic moments from Chinese history and culture. For the 2018 season, their creations included renderings of Guanyin, the Buddhist goddess of mercy and compassion, and the famous Chinese philosopher, Confucius.
