In 2017, Afghanistan based military journalist Jackie Faye founded She Can Tri, an organization “dedicated to making sure young girls and women know their options” and to level “the playing field in male-dominated industries.” Growing up as a child and becoming a professional in a male-dominated field herself, Faye realized how powerful it is for young girls to see women in prominent roles in our society. But she struggled with bringing awareness to this cause and to her organization. So she decided to go big. To do something no woman in the world had ever done: complete six IRONMAN triathlons on six continents within one year; an enormous and difficult challenge regardless of your gender.
Jackie Faye started this quest in Cairns, Australia in June 2017. From there, it was on to Zurich, Switzerland; Penghu, Taiwan, China; Mar del Plata, Argentina; and Port Elizabeth, South Africa. In Boulder, Colorado, one year to the day it all started, she attempted her record-breaking sixth IRONMAN. That’s where we caught up with her for this week’s Full Frame Close Up.
