Radar over Florida shows large bird migration

Key West radar had a busy Sunday night, but not because of weather. It was an impressive display of migratory birds so far in 2020 occurred overnight Sunday.

This looping video shows the birds departing Cuba and emerging in the Florida Straits. They disappear below the radar as they reach the Florida mainland.

This product distinguishes between biological targets (birds) shown in green/yellow and meteorological targets (showers and rain) depicted in darker blues.

The time lapse imagery spans 10.5 hours and was posted on social media by the U.S. National Weather Service in Key West, Florida.
