Midwives in the U.S. say they are seeing a surge in demand for home births because of concern about COVID-19. Fear of contracting the virus, not being allowed to have a partner present for the birth, and current pressure on the health system means some women are choosing to avoid hospital births if they can. But health experts say hospitals are still a safe place for delivery.
