Brazil’s former President discusses Bolsonaro, country’s response to COVID-19

Former Brazilian President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is calling for the impeachment of current president Jair Bolsonaro.

Still an immensely popular politician in South America’s biggest country, Lula was released from prison last November after serving less than two years of an almost nine-year sentence for corruption and money laundering.

While his appeals are ongoing the 74-year-old maintains his innocence and says his convictions were politically motivated to keep him from running for office again.

A founder of the Workers’ Party, Lula presided over a period of continued strong economic growth and is credited with lifting millions of Brazilians out of poverty.

He says he is worried about Brazil’s future.
