New York becomes first state to pass major gun restrictions after mass shootings

June is Gun Violence Awareness Month. Across the U.S. this weekend buildings will be lit up in orange, the color symbolizing gun violence prevention.

That includes in Buffalo, New York, where 10 people were killed and three others were wounded in a mass shooting last month.

The massacre has prompted the New York state legislature to pass a raft of new gun restrictions, the first state to do so since mass shootings in New York and Texas left 31 people dead.
