Four-day school weeks

World Today

As students head back to school, districts across the U.S. are facing a daunting task: finding enough teachers to adequately staff their classrooms.

Government data show that nearly 300,000 public school educators and other staff have quit since January 2020, many worn down by the COVID-pandemic, low pay, and increasingly hostile debate over what can be taught in the classroom.

To stand out from the competition some schools are now getting creative, shortening the school week to attract new teachers and retain experienced ones.

Toni Waterman has more from one school in Texas that is pioneering a 4-day school week.
