For weeks, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has been calling on his supporters to take to the streets on September 7, Brazil’s Independence Day.

This year, the holiday coincides with the 200th anniversary of the country’s independence from Portugal, a meaningful date for Latin America’s largest country. But with less than a month to go before Brazil’s presidential elections, celebrations across the country turned into political rallies. Lucrecia Franco reports.
