U.S. authorities issue alert for malaria cases

Health officials in the United States have issued an alert after five cases of locally acquired malaria were detected for the first time in decades.

The life-threatening disease is spread by mosquitoes, which are normally found in tropical climates.

But as global temperatures rise – more places are becoming hospitable to mosquitoes – and the deadly diseases they carry.
