Hurricane Idalia left a trail of destruction along its path through three U.S. states.

In Florida, where it first made landfall in the Big Bend region, where the panhandle of the state meets the peninsula, residents started to come back on Thursday to see what was left. Others who had refused to leave woke up to a new reality.
