Brazil’s food insecurity

October 16 is World Food Day, commemorating the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, the FAO, in 1979.

This year in Brazil, Latin America’s largest and most populous country, there is not much to celebrate.

Tens of millions of Brazilians suffer “moderate” to “severe” food insecurity.

This past weekend in Rio de Janeiro, directors and volunteers of Brazil’s biggest movement against hunger, took to the streets to protest and launch one more Christmas food drive for those in need.
