Toxic algae blooms threaten water ecosystems in the U.S.

World Today

Harmful algae blooms are popping up across the United States more frequently than ever before. Over the past summer, scores of dolphins and sea lions were killed in Southern California and thousands of residents have had their water resources tainted by the toxic organisms.

Researchers have recently revealed that the blue-green algae may also cause serious lifelong health problems, but are hopeful for new ways that have become available to fight them.
