Leaders of the South American trade bloc Mercosur gathered in Rio de Janeiro as tension escalated between Venezuela and Guyana. 

Brazil is handing the group’s rotating chair over to Paraguay and despite failing to secure a trade agreement with the European Union, the summit did make some progress.
