California opens Medicaid to undocumented immigrants

In 2024, the U.S. state of California has become the first state to offer health insurance for all undocumented immigrants. As of this month, all undocumented immigrants, regardless of age, qualify for Medi-Cal, California’s version of the federal Medicaid program for people with low incomes.

California State Senator María Elena Durazo called the expansion of the program a “historic investment that speaks to California’s commitment to health care as a human right.”
