The crisis at the U.S. border has ebbed in recent months, with apprehensions falling at one of the fastest rates on record.

Mexico is largely to thank as it clamps down on migrant flows from its side of the border. In an election year, lawmakers aren’t letting one of the most important issues on voters’ minds, simply fade into the background.
