Ecuador ramps up fight against organized crime

Ecuador is fighting back against the criminal groups that have grown in size and power in recent years – and ignited a wave of violence across the country.

Crackdowns have been ordered, soldiers patrol the streets, while some personal freedoms have been limited.

There is also a new effort to root out the corruption at the core of criminal operations and alleged links between criminal groups and state institutions.
