June 5 is World Environment Day. Established by the United Nations in late 1972 and first celebrated the next year, the day aims to raise awareness about key environmental issues. It aims to inspire citizens worldwide to take action to protect the environment. Coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, this year’s theme is land restoration, desertification and drought resilience. Ediz Tiyansan reports.
