Joko Widodo, also known as Jokowi, is Indonesia’s new president, representing Southeast Asia’s biggest country’s new hope for a clean government.
Widodo rose from a life in the slums to become a furniture maker and the governor of Indonesia’s capital. He is now Indonesia’s seventh president. Tens of thousands of people took to the streets to celebrate what is a true underdog story.
The new president comes into office with a pledge to give the world’s third biggest democracy a new form of politics.
