The U.S. has witnessed two recent mass shootings in the state of California, with the two attacks carried out by two elderly gunmen — ages 66 and 72.

While their ages may seem highly unusual for such incidents, the reality is that approximately one-third of elderly Americans over the age of 65 currently own guns.
