Five years ago, the world reacted in shock and anger following the murder of George Floyd in Minnesota. He was an unarmed Black man that was killed while in police custody in Minneapolis on May 25, 2020.
A White police officer knelt on his neck for more than eight minutes despite pleas from Floyd that he couldn’t breathe.
His death was filmed by a passerby and went viral, leading to global protests. It also drew attention to racial inequalities and calls for police reform. But since then, moves to bring change in the U.S. appear to have largely stalled.
