Russia’s Defense Ministry is questioning the satellite images published by the U.S. government that Washington says back up the claim that Russia fired artillery into Ukraine. CCTV-America’s Tom Barton reports.
The State Department’s satellite images show marks on the ground and impact craters which suggest fire from multiple rocket launchers on the Russian side of the Russia-Ukraine border. According to Russian state media, Russian parliament has called these claims absurd.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has repeatedly accused both Kiev and Washington of stoking the conflict in Ukraine. Analysts say validation of the images would be a symbolic and strategic victory for Ukraine.
The two sides are also in disagreement over the investigation into downed Flight MH17. Russia and pro-Russian militants in eastern Ukraine have been accused of tampering with the investigation.
