The truce between Israel and Hamas is holding after nearly a week. It followed fighting over a period of 50 days. Residents of Gaza and Israel living in the line of fire are now picking up the pieces. CCTV's Stephanie Freid reports.

Ayelet Epstein is helping her children get ready for the first day of school. Aged three, nine and 12 they’re all excited about getting back to routine, especially because they’ve been away from home and all that is familiar for months.

The Epsteins and 800 other community members fled their homes in July when Israel’s military embarked on Operation Protective Edge. Their close proximity to Gaza and a constant barrage of rockets and mortar shells, made them “sitting ducks” so they opted out.

Back home after two months, nine-year-old Rona shares her child’s view of living out of suitcases on the run.

If victory is measured by an ability to pick up the pieces then the Epsteins are winners. However, the uncertainty of a political situation predicted to flare again grips both families in a cycle of uncertainty and loss.
